It was interesting to note that Seek’s advertising revenue from recruitment agencies has decreased by just over a half (from 46% of their revenue in 2019 to 22% of their revenue this year) according to @RossClement’s Insight 715.
In SEEK ANZ, SMEs now account for 40% of job ad volume (25% in 2019), Corporates 28% (29% in 2019) and Agencies 22% (46% in 2019) |
Parkhouse Bell’s experience over the last few years would tell us the significant reduction in Agency spend on advertising is because Agencies know the candidates their clients want generally aren’t applying for jobs through online job boards such as Seek – they need to be headhunted by agencies who know their markets. Certainly, over 85% of Parkhouse Bell’s appointments are made through headhunting activity using our database and considerable networks.
SMEs or inhouse recruitment teams in Corporates don’t have the time or resources to dedicate to headhunting and so are having to rely on advertising which is unlikely to produce the results they need primarily because advertisements will only attract candidates who are actively looking for a new opportunity.
